Child Dentistry

Old Milton Dental believes dental and oral health begins in infancy.  As infants begin to develop their teeth, they are also developing the risk of dental caries (ie. cavities and tooth loss). From teething to braces, it is imperative parents are extremely attentive to the dental health of their children.

Unfortunately, reports have shown that parents are not paying as close attention to their children’s teeth and dental health as may be necessary. In the past decade, the Surgeon General and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has reported tooth decay and cavities as the most chronic ailments in children, as well as teenagers.

“My child just has baby teeth, and eventually they will fall out. We shouldn’t waste our time or money on dental visits for baby teeth.” This is a common argument and justification for not seeing a dentist during early years. Baby teeth will fall out, however oral health needs to begin from infancy, just as nutritional and physical health are priorities. Prevention is essential during this formation years.

Brushing and massaging gums is the first step in establishing dental hygiene. The soft brushing and gentle massaging can help ease the pain many infants experience while they are teething. You can accomplish this using a toothbrush made especially for infants, or a simple washcloth. This will help remove acids from medicines, as well as sugars from milk formulas and baby food.

At 12 months, baby teeth can be brushed with a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Teaching children how to brush their teeth early will aid tremendously in forming their own dental hygiene practices. Children will learn the importance of brushing their teeth if it becomes a routine, priority, and their own responsibility.

2010 Digital Dentistry Summit

Dr. Corey Mazer, DDS, of Old Milton Dental in Alpharetta, Georgia possesses an unmatched dedication to provide his patients with the most efficient and comfortable services available in preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry. This personal drive and commitment to his Atlanta, Alpharetta, and North Fulton patients, led Dr. Corey Mazer from Alpharetta, Georgia to St. Paul, Minnesota for the 2010 Digital Dentistry Summit.

The Digital Dentistry Summit focused on the latest technology regarding 3M Lava Digital Dental Impressions. The 3M Lava Digital Dental Impression transforms the process of obtaining and reviewing a dental impression.  Impressions, currently taken from plastic trays and gooey material, now can be more accurately obtained and assessed through a high precision wand-like instrument. This light weight and highly maneuverable instrument enables dentists, like Dr. Mazer, to examine the dimensions of a patient’s mouth through 3D video images. These images can be seen immediately and continuously.

Sparked with interest, Dr. Mazer took initiative to investigate this technology. With his Alpharetta, Atlanta, and North Fulton patients in mind, Dr. Mazer personally travelled to see how well this technology and its promises align with the Old Milton Dental philosophy of personal dedication in providing the best service in preventative, restorative and cosmetic dentistry.

Questions inevitably follow technology. How reliable is this technology? How will it affect Atlanta, Alpharetta, and North Fulton patients? These questions resonate in Dr. Mazer and are not taken lightly. Dr. Mazer will carefully consider this new technology and the consequences it will have on Old Milton Dental. Old Milton Dental patients can have confidence in their dentist. A 3M Lava Digital Dental Impression machine will only be welcome if it can provide Alpharetta, Georgia the same efficiency, hard work, and smiles as the Old Milton Dental staff.
