You may have crooked or misaligned teeth, but don't want a mouthful of metal braces. Now you can get straighter teeth without the use of traditional braces with Invisalign® aligners. Popular with many of the Atlanta-area patients at Old Milton Dental in Alpharetta, Georgia, this orthodontic treatment can straighten your teeth using clear aligners (sometimes referred to as “invisible braces”) instead of metal braces.
Invisalign® Aligners vs. Traditional Metal Braces
There are some similarities and some differences between Invisalign® clear aligners and traditional metal braces. Most notably, Invisalign® aligners are more cosmetically pleasing than metal braces and are, in many cases, nearly invisible. In fact, chances are that most people won't even notice you're wearing Invisalign®.
Besides aesthetics, another difference between metal braces and Invisalign® is the fact that the clear aligners can be removed when eating and cleaning your teeth, but metal braces are affixed to your teeth. Additionally, while braces are adjusted through tightening the wires and brackets, Invisalign® aligners are adjusted by changing the clear aligners every two weeks.
The length of treatment time can also vary between metal braces and the clear aligners. In many cases, Invisalign® can straighten teeth more quickly than metal braces.

How Invisalign® Aligners Work
The Invisalign® system works in a similar way as braces; it slowly guides your teeth into the desired position over the course of a number of months. Whereas metal braces accomplish this with metal wires and brackets attached to your teeth, Invisalign® moves your teeth with a custom made series of clear plastic aligners.
Like our other patients from the Atlanta, Georgia area, you can come to Old Milton Dental in Alpharetta to be fitted for the aligners, which will be changed about every two weeks as teeth become straighter.
You'll wear Invisalign® all the time, except when eating, or brushing your teeth. You will need to come to our office for occasional appointments so we can check your progress.
